The Qinghai-Xizang Railway is nearly 2,000 kilometres long and has been in operation since 2006. With 85 percent of the track running over terrain that is 4000 meters above sea level, it's the world’s highest railway. Opening the 800-kilometer-long western section between the cities of Xining and Geermu to Fuxing high speed trains will shorten travel time by 30 percent.
