China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, edged up 0.2 percent year on year in May, the National Bureau of Statistics said Friday. On a yearly basis, the CPI grew 0.2 percent in the urban area and 0.1 percent in the rural area. In May, the prices of food registered a year-on-year growth of one percent, while the non-food prices remained flat.
