China News: China Boosts Medical Isotope Production to Reduce Import Dependence

China is advancing its healthcare capabilities with the construction of its first solution-type medical isotope test reactor in Sichuan Province, set to be operational by 2027. The facility will produce critical isotopes, including iodine-131 for thyroid cancer detection and molybdenum-99 for diagnosing heart disease and various cancers. This initiative aims to reduce China’s reliance on imported medical isotopes.
