In northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, farmers are using watermelon cultivation as an innovative solution to stabilize the shifting sands of the Taklimakan Desert while enhancing their income. This year, over 1,700 hectares were planted with a seed-bearing variety of watermelon, benefiting from biological treatments that improve soil quality. The initiative supports both environmental sustainability and economic growth for local communities.
