Burna Boy Wins Best International Act in the BET Awards 2021. Defeats Diamond and Wizkid

Burna Boy wins the 2021 Best International Act in the BET Awards

Renowned musician Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, won the 2021 Best International Act award in the BET awards. 

BET Awards was founded in 2001 as an American award show. The Black Entertainment Television was meant to celebrate and recognize African Americans in all entertainment fields, including music, sports, and acting every year.  

Burna Boy managed to take the title home after defeating Nigeria’s Wizkid, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Young T & Bugsey from the United Kingdom, Youssoppha from France, Brazil’s Emicida, and Headie One from the United Kingdoms. 

Burna Boy winning the award this year marks his third time. The first time he won the award was in 2019, then in 2020 and 2021, respectively.  

He also became the first artist in Nigeria to win a Grammy in March 2021. This was after he released his album ‘Twice as Tall.’ 

‘Twice as Tall’ got the award for the ‘Best Global Music Album’ in the 63rd Annual Grammys that took place on 14 March in Los Angeles.

Diamond Platnumz appreciated Tanzanians for their support

Diamond Platnumz became the only artist who represented East Africa in the 2021 BET. However, singer Ryvanny was the first artist to win a BET award from Tanzania in 2017. He took home “The BET Viewers Choice Best New International Act."  

The 2021 BET Awards was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday. The event was hosted by actress Taraji P Henson. 

Diamond posted for the first after the award, thanking Tanzanians for the support and love they showed him. According to Diamond,Tanzania being mentioned among the countries with some of the best musicians in the world is something worth thanking God for.
