Kenya’s renowned gengetone artist Major Nameye Khadija popularly known as Mejja, is a worried man! This is after his recently released hit song ‘Tabia za Wakenya’ was brought down from YouTube. According to reports, an upcoming artist laid a copyright claim on Majja’s song.
‘Tabia za Wakenya’ managed to gunner 2million views after being on YouTube for just three weeks.
On his Instagram page, Mejja shared the song that led to his own being scraped off. He expressed his disappointment stating that he is done being the humble guy and will seek justice this time.
“Strike #TabiaZaWaKenya Kwa YouTube UJINGA!!!! YaaNi I Am Speechless, NiMeTumiwa Kwa Mail Na YouTube YaaNi UFala Na Deal NaYo Hate Ingine Noma But I Will Never Give In But I Am Done Being The Humble Guy Hii Na Deal NaYo!!!! YaaNi NiMeskia Vibaya Manze Juu Nimeambiwa Rule Ya YouTube Ni It Doesn't Matter Kama NiKo Right Lazima Ikae Two Weeks Ndio Irudi YouTube SIR JAH AKO Na Mimi YOU Can SLOW ME DOWN BUT I AM NOT GIVING IN GOD ABOVE EVERYTHING.”
Netizens have expressed mixed reactions, with some in support and others in opposition. The supporters claim that those responsible for having Mejja’s song discarded are jealous people who would stop at nothing to see his downfall.
Others claimed that Mejja had lost his lyrical ability, and this is the reason why copyright claims are on to him.
Mejja has always found a way to keep his head above water. His comical lyrics and music videos have always given people a reason to listen to his songs. Many artists that he began his career with have lost their ways in music and sort their survival from other things. Kenyans are left with no choice but to listen to their throwback content.
The music industry has become very competitive and continues to do so each day. Artists are struggling to keep their positions at the top. Just the other day, singer Willy Paul disclosed that one reason he ditched gospel music for secular music was to survive. According to him, gospel music couldn't pay his bills.
