Jose Mourinho has been fired as Tottenham Hotspur boss. This comes after the Portuguese spending just over one season as Tottenham manager. The North London-based club is currently seventh in the premier league table and is under threat of missing out on the UEFA Champions League next season. Only the top four teams will qualify.
Mourinho's predecessor Mauricio Pochettino's did not fare any better at the club. The club failed to win any silverware. It was expected that "The Special One" Jose would accomplish what Pochettino couldn't. It wasn't to be.
It is important to note that Mourinho was not allowed a full season at the club. In his first season, 19/20, Tottenham finished sixth in the league. A run of just one win in six games is the straw the broke the camel's back, prompting club chairman Daniel Levy to act.
Spurs are set to play Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final this coming Sunday, their only hope for silverware as they are out of the Title race, FA Cup, and were recently eliminated from the UEFA Europa League by Croatian League leaders Dynamo Zagreb.
So, what could have gone wrong for Jose? He is on record publicly criticizing his players, which is the kind of thing that loses a manager in the dressing room and support from the fan base.
What's next for Spurs? Assistant coach Ryan Mason will assume first-team duties and is expected to see out the season as the club yet again quests to find a permanent replacement.
