Manchester City Get First Win in the Champions League Quarter Finals Against Borussia Dortmund

Phil Foden scored a late goal snatching the win for Manchester City

Manchester City garnered a 2-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in a clash that seemed to end as a draw. This was after Phil Foden scored a significant tie breaking goal towards the end of the 90th minute of the Champions League quarter final. 

Borussia Dortmund nearly came out advantageous after Marco Reus scored an equalizing away goal making it a 1-1 tie at Etihad Stadium. A shocker came in for the German giants after the the tie was broken and a late win snatched by their opponents Manchester City. 

Kevin De Bruyne made a tremendous attack going forward after a mistake was made at Dortmund’s Midfield and ended up becoming a goal from the Belgian footballer. 

A controversial moment came in after a penalty was awarded to Manchester City with claims that Emre Can from Borussia Dortmund made a rough move against Rodri in the goalkeeper’s box. It forced the referee to make a monitor review reversing his decision of what was to be a penalty with Can keeping his unfair yellow card.

Borussia Dortmund broke the clean sheet after Marco Reus score

Borussia’s goal was equally disallowed after youngster Jude Bellingham scored a controversial goal, with the ref deeming him to have fouled Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson and receiving a yellow card for it.  

In the second half, both teams were making attacks towards the opposite side taking merit of some voids forcing both the Ederson and Marwin Hitz to make constant saves. 

From the way Pep’s men were playing, it looked like they were going for a clean sheet. Dortmund decided not to let this happen as Marco Reus made a forward move breaking the clean sheet during the 83rd minute after an amazing connecting play from Erling Haaland and Bellingham. 

Manchester City finally carried the day. Their win made their first quarter finals victory in the UEFA Champions League. The battle is not yet over for them as Borussia came out with an away goal which counts a lot.
