Serving the country is not all roses in the garden. Tamima Ibrahim, a media executive, content creator and show host to REAL TALK, hosted a few employees from different departments of the National police. She got to engage them in relation to their day to day lives.
While a number of them never aspired to be in this line of duty, others went for the profession and gave it their all. Naomi Maina, an Assistant Super Intendent of the Kenya Police, resigned from her Accounting job to pursue this. Pilot Jacinta Akorot, flies police officers to different destinations each day and just as society would frame it, her husband is a resigned police officer. Madam Murega on the other hand, is a 30-year-old lady married to an armed forces officer.
Philanthropy
Apart from the serious face and respect this uniform demands, beneath it are humanitarians and givers.
Pilot Jacinta explains how humbling it is to be “a hero in the sky,” saving people who cannot access services while Naomi is a part time mentor and skater. She teaches children how to skate and they have all learnt to see her softer side. They can easily approach her for advice or a shoulder to lean on as a friend.
On Training and recruitment.
Anthony Munga, a Deputy Police Spokesman, explained that the National Police Service Commission is in charge of recruitment and works as the Human Resource. This, however, depends on the budget and decisions made by the government. They advertise it through print and electronic media, which is open to the public.
‘’The minimal requirement varies every year’’ he added.
Well buckle up as we get an inside peek into the oath-taking profession!
