Despite the many challenges in Kenya, there are some things that make it worth being a Kenyan and living in Kenya. One of such things is our entertainment industry. The Kenyan entertainment industry has got a lot of drama, humour and lessons.
Switch TV have gone out of their way to bring new shows starting the week of 17th February. One of the new shows in the hyped lineup is Blind Date (Airs every Tuesday at 7:30PM). If you want to strike terror into the hearts of singles people, mention the two words: Blind Date.
It is a delightfully unhinged dating show that is self-explanatory. It centres a group of singles who go on a series (literal) blind dates. As in, their eyes are covered with a blind fold and therefore cannot see the person they are chatting with. They can only hear them. Using voice intrests and connections, they whittle down until they have found the one.
The show has attracted a good following for various reasons. Some fans want to know what happens at the shows, others want to steal dating tips, while others just enjoy the drama and humour brought about by the different participants.

Of course, eventually they do see what the person looks like and that is where the real stories begin. How will these "deep connections" developed based on hearing translate when the partcipants finally lay their eyes on their date? Will they still be attracted to each other? And how does attraction work in a blind-date scenario bearing in mind the narrow school of thought in our society when it comes to "beauty"?
Think about it. If unconventionally attractive people went out on this show and got their hearts broken after they saw the person face-to-face, that would just be…awful. It would confirm the shallowness of the society we are living in.
For the lucky ones, a future relationship or even marriage is in the offing with the rest walking out the same way they walked in. This is the show for you if you prefer a real hook-up, where your date cant hide behind a 10-years-younger profile pic.
