Isiolo Starlets vs Chuka University at the Eastern Region finals

Isiolo Starlets and Tumaini School will represent the Eastern Region at this year’s National event of the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth football tournament scheduled for June in the coastal city of Mombasa.

On a hot and sunny afternoon, Isiolo Starlets beat Chuka University 3-2 during the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Eastern Region Girls finals at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on 9th February 2020. In a hotly contested final, it was the girls from Chuka University that drew first blood; taking the lead after only 3 minutes of play through Susan Wanjeri. It however did not take the starlets long to equalize, Halakhe Gutaye got her name into the scoreboard on the 33rd minute. The game went into half time on level.

It was a different story during the second half, Hilda Wanjiku scored two goals in quick succession in the 53rd and 57th minutes of play to give the starlets from Isiolo an almost indomitable 3:1 lead albeit with plenty of time to play. Both goals came from open play with Hilda’s second a tap-in to an open goal mouth.

There was plenty of more to come though, the ever lively Susan Wanjeri struck the Varsity Girls’ second almost immediately to set up what was truly an entertaining final 30 minutes of the game with everything there to play for.

Isiolo Starlets however dearly held on to their dear lead to be crowned the Eastern Region Champions and also earn their Tickets to Mombasa.
