Kennedy Ombina popularly known to fans as King Kaka has been making headlines over the weekend and has the country still talking about his latest song. He took the country by storm on the Saturday of 14th December with his new song Wajinga Nyinyi calling out Kenyans for their hypocrisy.

The Rapper did not mince his words and called out political leaders who have been linked to various scams and still hold powerful seats in Government. He boldly sings about Kenya being run by thieves, reprimanding the citizens and calling on them to vote in leaders wisely even though he is well aware come the next election Kenyans will yet again elect the same corrupt politicians.

The black & white video is available on YouTube and has a sign language interpreter to ensure no audience is left behind. There’s also a lyrics video on the same platform. By Sunday morning, the 6 minutes 58 seconds video was number one on YouTube trending videos in East Africa. On Twitter the song was very popular with more than 19,000 tweets under the hashtag #WajingaNyinyi and maintained the spot on both platforms the entire day.

Speak Up…

The self-entitled Swahili Shakespeare conceived an artistic provocative technique to drive his point home. He sings about corruption and how it has infiltrated all sectors. The Rapper blames voters of this republic for blindly dancing to the tunes of politicians. He questions their forgetfulness, mocking them for turning against each other during elections.

With a somber mood captured by the lack of color on the video, Kaka goes on to not spare any sector of the economy as he lays bare how the government has short-changed its citizens. King Kaka sings of how leaders have disregarded the education system while sending their children to study overseas. As a result, graduates are jobless, frustrated, holding placards along the streets and established companies gates desperately pleading for employment. The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) is not spared either for threatening to publish the names of unemployed loan defaulters.

He also took issue with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration for ignoring the youth by rapping that the only way to get a job is when one is an old retiree.

The youth ni Moody at 90 and Gikonyo at 80.

 Feedback…

Kenyans poured praises on the provoking performance and the daring nature of the artist. However, some political leaders didn’t take it well. They felt chided and responded fiercely through social media. Former Kathiani MP tweeted through her Wavinya Ndeti Press Team wrote

@RabbitTheKing must be called out, you cannot abuse elected leaders simply because you want to seek relevance, we must draw the line on content creation. You can actually pass your message without dragging anyone disrespectfully.

In response, some Kenyans trolled her for being unaccommodating to the truth. Miguna Miguna applauded King Kaka for his bravery.

Stand firm, Comrade. Impunity grows on fear. Cowardice is the fertilizer for dictatorship. Compromise is the manure for despotism. Never waver. Never compromise. Never fear. Revolution is the answer and the solution. MOBILIZE! ORGANIZE! #RevolutionNow #WanjingaNyinyi

Former presidential candidate Mwalimu Abduba Dida posted

Kenya has about 50 million citizens and less than 2,000 elective positions. Ironically, when Kenyans get the opportunity to vote, they always pick the worst possible choices then spend the following five years crying. #WajingaNyinyi is a good piece of activist art. Thank you.

Enlightening piece…

Kaka echoes the criticism of other artists including Sauti Sol and Nyashinski who have also expressed similar concerns in their hit Tujiangalie, criticising false development in Kenya and most importantly reminding the masses the power they possess.
