Mama rocks founders
Mama Rocks, the beyond burger joint, was founded in 2016 but officially opened about 2 years ago. The founders, sisters Samantha and Natalie Mwedekeli have a mix of Kenyan & Nigeria background decided to marry their values with what they love.
''Growing up under the watch of parents who were successful entrepreneurs meant we had the opportunity to have access management books and every time we visited family down here, we saw how fast Kenya was rising and we decided to start a business… all things African!'' Creative Natalie says.
The journey.
Samantha, who worked as a Human Resource specialist in London for close to 9 years, decided to quit her job and follow her passion. Together, they brought the idea to their father, who was not so optimistic and rejected it initially. Later on, due to their sheer determination he started warming up to the idea and was major contributor to their initial Capital.
Recently the ladies were guests on popular business show Top Job hosted by Mwenesi Musalia on Switch TV every Thursday at 8:30PM. Self-belief and proper planning are key if one is to succeed as there are major risks involved. They explained how they started from a mobile food truck before opening up their outlets in the posh Kilimani and Westlands locations within Nairobi.
It took more than three months to find suitable suppliers and also come up with the perfect menu after more than 12 months of research test runs.
Here’s the interview.
