Nobody likes the sound of ‘healthy meals’. It often paints an image of boiled vegetables and tasteless food but this Full Circle show with Joyce Omondi beats that myth. Healthy meals are actually extremely tasty, you just need to know how to go about it.
“No you don’t have to boil your chicken, no you don’t have to boil your potatoes. You can bake them in the oven, you can use spices.”
Healthy is better
Fast foods are on the rise and the only thing in our minds is, “Can we have a better option, not feeling deprived of our taste?”
A healthy meal does not take much effort. Simply get a balanced meal. A good breakfast could look like; Sweet potatoes, eggs, avocado and vegetables (tomatoes, spinach, cucumber) “Do whole grains and root tubers. Avoid anything white.”
Cooking oils - Oils good for cooking include coconut oil, ghee. You may want to avoid the vegetable and sunflower oils. If you wish to add oil to your salad, go for olive oil. It works better uncooked.
The junk!
Stay away from sugary foods. Do you ever find yourself not having enough of that chocolate, ice-cream, cake? Faith Kamiri, certified nutritionist tells us why…
It is the worst combination of food consisting of sugary foods and fat. It all seems equally delicious to alternative healthy options. Even so, the effects come much later when older and battling diseases like diabetes.
“That combination chemically induces pleasure system in the brain but it is also very addictive.”
The truth is no one can be 100%, at some point you’ll fall off. This is however no excuse to not being consistent with healthy living. If you are eating healthy 70 to 80% of the time, cheat days are allowed.
