On very rare occasions will you come across a beautiful hijabi model, let alone in Kenya. Her name is Ikran Omar and on this episode of Full Circle with Joyce Omondi, we find out why culture, principles and work did not hinder her walk into the modeling industry. She is a whole package and we are all in for it.

Know her on a personal level

The 23-year-old is a graduate from Kenyatta University with a degree in Economics and Finance, now working as an auditor.

If you are wondering how she got into the modelling scene, 3 years ago her friend started a bridal collection and asked her to model the pieces. After uploading on social media, blessings came Ikran’s way.

“From that one photoshoot, I got messages from designers asking if I’d be interested in working with them and it was something to think about…”

Culture and religion had to be discussed. In Islam, modelling is undoubtedly not the first career choice as principles have to be in check. The women possess extreme beauty but most shy away, however, Ikran chooses to push forward.

“The first time I mentioned it to my mum she was like no, no way. I made a deal with her to follow me to the shoots. If she liked it, for her to give me her blessings and if not, I leave it completely.”

Benefits, achievements

With no experience in modelling, Ikran was awarded the second female model of the year at the Somali Glamour Awards, Kenya last year. She is again nominee for the same this year.

Her modelling career got her brief training from world renown Kenyan model Ajuma Nasenyana. It also boosts her work interviews she says.

Ikran seeks to compete for Miss World Kenya and Miss Universe in a bid to make it to greater heights just like American model Halima Aden.
