Lupita Nyong'o at Serengeti in Tanzania

Oscar award winner and Kenyan actress based in the US Lupita Nyong’o visited Tanzania on Monday, April 5, as part of her Easter celebration with the rest of the world. During her visit, the actress toured different sites of tourist attraction and the widely known Serengeti was one of them.

While at Serengeti, Lupita saw different animals and had so much fun. The Oscar award winner could not contain her excitement and took to her social media where she posted a picture of herself standing in front of a big elephant. She affirmed her followers that this was an actual experience and not a zoomed background.

''This is not a Zoom background, I promise! #Elphie in the #Serengeti. ,'' the actress captioned.

Many celebrities from Tanzania were impressed by her visit. Their happiness could be seen as they commented on Lupita’s post in huge numbers suggesting that Serengeti was one of the best tourist attraction sites to visit. What they were basically doing was promoting tourism in their country as they encouraged people to go to Tanzania and have a feel of the amazing experience.

Several Tanzanian netizens appreciated Lupita for promoting Tanzania’s tourism through the photo she shared on her Instagram.

CS Najib Balala and Naomi Campbell

At the beginning of the year, Kenyans had expressed their anger and criticism towards the decision made by the Ministry of Tourism to have Naomi Campbel as Kenya's International Tourism Ambassador rather than Lupita. In their defense, the Ministry stated that Lupita had been hard to chase as they had tried to get a hold of her for five years in vain.

CS Najib Balala argued that such decisions are equally made based on the nature of the market and depending on how largely the country would be marketed. According to him, choosing Campbell would make use of her wide international connections to ensure the country’s brand is marketed.

Lupita counter responded to the CS on her twitter with a photo in which she was laughing, accompanied by a sarcastic caption that read:

"Me when I hear the Kenyan Ministry of Tourism has been looking for me for five years. #Imrightherebaby #alternativefacts."

Days later, the CS claimed that an ambassadorial role given to Lupita would be a great honor to the country as she would help a lot in marketing the country’s brand.
