Member of parliament for Kiambaa constituency Paul Koinange is dead. According to the report given by the family members, the MP died due to COVID-19 complications on Wednesday, March 31 at the Nairobi Hospital.
During the 2017 general elections, Koinange ran for MP for Kiambaa constituency through the Jubilee party ticket and was elected. He was the departmental Committee on Administration and National Security’s chairperson where he served until his demise.
The lawmaker was mourned by Preseident Uhuru Kenyatta who described him as a reliable leader who was focused and supported the peace agenda of Kenya through his position as chairman of the National Security Committee.
Other leaders like Member of Parliament for Starehe constituency equally passed their message of condolence. Jaguar tweeted:
"Saddened to receive the news of the demise of honourable Paul Koinange; MP Kiambaa constituency. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and constituents. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
Junet Mohamed, Member of Parliament for Suna East constituency also mourned the departed:
"Deeply saddened by the untimely demise of my friend the Hon Paul Koinange. My condolences to his family and constituents of Kiambaa, the Jubilee Party, and the nation he served so diligently."
Paul Koinange was among the leaders who were strategizing on how they would eliminate and criminalize Deputy President William Ruto’s hustler nation. He stated that no variation existed between the people spreading hate along tribal bounderies and those dividing individuals through the use of dynasty narrative vs hustler.
His efforts in attempting to incorporate class as an element of hate speech are among the positive efforts he made, and tried to advocate for and will be remembered for this.
COVID-19 is now in its third wave in Kenya. It has taken the lives of many individuals. Families have lost their loved ones in different parts of the country. Some people who have fallen victim and died from this virus are familiar faces and public figures. We have lost media personalities such as Lorna Irungu and Robin Njogu. The economy has been shaken, businesses destroyed learning disrupted and movement restricted. This is practical evidence that what we are dealing with is real. Stay safe.
