Let's unite, let's stop discrimination of HIV/AIDS patients

As it’s custom, the world today commemorates the 22nd World AIDS Day. Every other year, the world celebrates people living with HIV/AIDS as well as those who died of the disease. First conceived in 1987 by two public information officers, Thomas Netter and James Bunn, the aim of this day is to show love to all HIV/AIDs victims, motivate and remind them that they are of great importance and their presence is, and will always be highly appreciated.

Each World AIDS Day has been allocated a specific theme and this year’s theme is Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility. It’s a coincidence that the theme suits the current global pandemic that’s affecting the world, the Corona Virus Disease. The theme simply encourages all and sundry to unite in fighting further spread of HIV/AIDs by adhering to the health regulations directed to the HIV patients and taking the precautionary measures that help in prevention of the disease. Moreover, each individual should take it as a personal responsibility to educate themselves about HIV and create awareness to the illiterate.

Be responsible enough. Create awareness on HIV/AIDS

This initiative has been supported by several organizations; government & private, as well as several individuals. In a tweet this morning, the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) said that HIV remains a major global public health issue. They encourage everyone to join hands in spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS and in paying tribute to all those working to fight it.

The World Health Organization (WHO) in conjunction with Kenya Medical Association(KMA) motivate us to stand up against HIV-related stigma and discrimination by listening to people living with HIV and speaking out against stereotypes. Take an action today, save a soul.
