Arteta instructing his squad during match vs Wolves on 29th November

Arsenal’s (1-2) loss to Wolves at the Emirates in their tenth game this season puts club manager Mikel Arteta’s job at a questionable position. Their former coach, Unai Emery was fired exactly a year ago being in the same predicament. This leaves arsenal fans asking if Arteta should be worried about his managerial role at Arsenal.

Speaking at a post-match interview, Arteta said that he is not worried about losing his job. “The day I decided to be a coach, I knew one day I’d get sacked so I’m not worried about that,” he said when asked about his job status, due to the unimpressive results Arsenal have recently registered.

The Gunners last night lost their third consecutive game at their turf this season. They are having an average performance with five losses in ten games so far, and sitting at 14th in the English Premier League table.

So where exactly is the problem? This is what most Arsenal fans aka the Gooners are eager to find out. At this stage they can only speculate. They have been dealing with defense issues for some years now, so they recently signed Ghanaian bigshot Thomas Partey as a midfield anchor. However, he picked up an injury and did not feature in their most recent game.

The gap he left was clearly seen in their defeat last night. To make matters worse for the Gooners, Arteta has confirmed that Partey will be out for an even longer but unspecified duration. “Partey won’t be back for the next few games,” he said. “The injury seems to be more serious than I thought.”

Arsenal's Aubameyang frustrated with result vs Wolves

Arsenal had not scored in four of their previous games prior to Last night’s loss to Wolves. They only scored in their (1-0) win against Manchester United, via Aubameyang’s penalty kick. On the bright side they have not been losing with big goal margins; their biggest recent loss was by 3 goals to Aston Villa. So has Arteta decided to focus on defense before turning to the attacking side of his squad’s game?

Speaking of their attacking, their main goal scorer, Aubameyang has recently not been firing in any goals. His last goal was a penalty kick against Manchester United on 1st November. When asked if he is worried about Aubameyang lacking the finishing power, Arteta said “My biggest concern is how to help him score more goals because we need more goals.”

Arteta seems to take all the responsibility as the manager, saying that he is still looking for consistency in his squad. “It’s down to me to find a solution, and put the players in their right positions. Their quality and efficiency have to be more consistent, this is the task we have at hand,” he said.

Their next Premier League match is against their fierce rivals, Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday December 6th. A loss there will surely have the fans calling for the board’s decision on Arteta’s replacement. However, Arteta seems to know where the problem with his squad lies, maybe he should be given more time to better apply his strategy, shouldn’t he?
