How strong is your squad? Do they add value to your life? What are your plans for the future?

Well, if you do not have one, it is okay. Not everyone deserves a seat at your table. At Anna Njoroge’s table however, is a whole empire. She has friends that have for years helped her build her brand.

TOP JOB host Mwenesi Musalia, takes us through her journey.

Ythera Beauty Company

Anna came to Kenya back in 2014 after 16 years in the US. She could not find local beauty brands to suit her. Those that existed were expensive she says.

“She knew that she wanted to create something for the African woman”

Ythera Beauty was started in August 2016. The company focuses on the limitless African woman with products ranging from body mists to body creams, each expressing different traits of the woman.

“The African woman does not just do one thing; she does everything”

Challenges during and after the start up

Just like every other company, starting and getting Ythera Beauty to the level it is presently, was not a walk in the park. There were ups and downs.

Actualizing the idea and sourcing a team that will share Anna’s vision for the company was a challenge. Getting her products made locally as well as being accepted in the local market proved difficult too.

However, it was a sweet and sour journey when the products were introduced into the market. Some retailers she says, were reluctant to stock the Kenyan made product while few others, actually embraced it.

The squad (friends uplifting each other)

“I would do anything for them and they would do anything for me”

Having three friends, able and willing to walk this journey with Anna is what made Ythera Beauty what it is today.

There share a lot in common, not just business wise but also in most aspects of life such as what they do for fun and what not.

Her squad consists of All and Sundry company CEO, whom she calls Shiru… who does all the branding for Ythera beauty. Fiona Kwatemba, a digital marketing consultant. She sorts matters social media for the company and lastly Tamara Mogaka, who deals with the finances and is a staff member at the company.

You know what they say, ‘when women gather, great things will happen!’
