Kenyans have joined the fourth estate in mourning the unfortunate departure of TV news anchor Anjlee Gadhvi. She passed away at the Aga Khan University Hospital on Friday the 10th of January 2020 while undergoing treatment at the facility.
Anjlee's colleagues led by Group Head of TV and Digital at Mediamax, Peter Opondo sent their condolences to the family and reminisced her impact at work. They described her as relentless and focused on both her family and career.
Oh my friend Anjlee Gadhvi, you fought that cancer beast with all your might. You did it for your kids, husband. Never lost hope. You always smiled through the pain and insisted on coming to work even at your weakest points. We believed you were winning…until now! RIP my friend.
Her journey with cancer….
The anchor was first diagnosed with cancer of the liver in 2013. She immediately sought treatment in India and the mother of two was elated after being declared cancer free. During that time Ms. Gadhvi mentioned that she had taken up biking after receiving a second lease in life, something she considered priceless. After two years however, the cancer reappeared and Anjlee detailed the appalling side effects of chemotherapy.
Being strapped in a single position with my arms stretched above my head has made this body sore… Unpleasant side effects resulted in an inflamed throat, a tedious process of being unable to swallow or eat without pain.
Despite her illness, the dedicated journalist didn’t stop doing what she enjoys doing. Our heartfelt condolences to Gadhvi’s family and friends. Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
