The Nyong’o family is a powerhouse. Over there they are eating life with a big spoon and taking the world by storm. Globally recognized talent, humanitarian work and leadership all in one household.
Lupita is not the only family member making worldwide headlines in the Nyong’o household. The Oscar award-winning actress and her Mom, Dorothy were awarded by the Harlem School of the Arts for their role in cancer awareness across the globe. The event took place on Monday October 21st.
How it went down…
The coveted Harlem School of the Arts award chose to recognize Lupita and her mother for their efforts in creating cancer awareness. Trevor Noah was thrilled when he was picked to present the mother - daughter duo with the coveted international award. Lupita and her mum received the Visionary Lineage Award during a star studded event.
Trevor Noah’s announcement…
The renowned Comedian on his social media post said he felt privileged to be the one to present the Nyongo’s with the HSA award. He went on further to say that though he is not the only one, he certainly is one Lupita’s best friends.
Last night it was truly an honour to present the HSA Visionary Lineage Award to Dorothy and Lupita Nyong’o. And I’m not saying I’m Lupita Nyongo’s best friend in the whole world but they didn’t pick anyone else to hand over the awards.
On building a dynasty…
Lupita's mum is currently the Managing Trustee of the Africa Cancer Foundation and Director of the 7th Sense Communication Limited. She has participated and organized several conferences around the world to sensitize people on ways to overcome cancer.
The actress recently published her first book Sulwe. It is a children’s book that talks about colourism, self-esteem issues and infuses myth and fantasy to tell the story of a dark skinned girl who desires to be lighter. The book which was released on October 15th has seen her do several interviews to discuss its content.
It is no secret that her Father, The Governor of Kisumu County Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o is really proud of his girls.
The Nyong’o family is slowly creating a blue print on how to build a dynasty as a family.
