Week one Premier League standing and results.

Euphoric is what it was! The Premier League is finally here and the excitement was too much this past weekend. Those in the Fantasy Premier League have been busy in the lab placing their teams in order and the test was finally put on their desks. Summer almost took forever even with games such as African Cup of Nations, Concacaf Gold Cup, Women’s World Cup and Copa America going on during that time, we can all agree that all the football aficionados were looking into the new European season.

The summer transfer window closed at 1700 BST on Thursday August 8, 2019 for English Premier League and Sky Bet Championship clubs. However, the sale of players to European clubs can continue until early September. The Sky Bet League One and League Two clubs is 1700 BST on Monday September 2, same as Scottish clubs. Most of Europe can buy and sell players until Monday September 2 too, with Italy as the exception with their deadline on Sunday August 18.The biggest transfers of course including Manchester United’s defender Harry Maguire from Leicester for £80 Alex Iwobi from Arsenal to Everton for £34, Nicholas Pepe from Lille to Arsenal for £72, these are just a few of the gazillion of transfers either on loan, for free, at a fee, undisclosed or disclosed.

First week performance

A new spin into the season; 27 goals in 10 games.

The Champion’s League winners came in hard on the new Canaries boys, although they created chances, the 4-1 loss on them away will surely make them want to remain on this superb table. Also Mo Salah? What a perfect time to have him as a captain on opening week. Our own Divock Origi on the 42nd minute scored a fantastic goal! The boys will be meeting Southampton on Saturday.

Speaking of Southampton, we know they are better than the 3-0 defeat by Burnley, Come on lads! But the most sorrowful defeat must have been the red devils’ against Frank Lampard’s first game in the managerial suit. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must have had a lot of faith in his squad, though the blues played some good ball, seemed fate was on the devil’s side. Ironic, isn’t it? Rashford brought his A game and was the man of the match, not missing the penalty on 18’ and adding another one in the second half. Martial didn’t disappoint either. The new boys on their debut came cruising down on Chelsea with Daniel James scoring, Harry Maguire giving them a hard time on the defense box and Wan Bissaka chasing them down the field. The prey was feasted on.

Also on Sunday, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Arsenal a narrow win over Newcastle United, as the Video assistant ensured a full draw on the Leicester City and Wolver Hampton Wanderers.

The hat trick of week one was amazing. Raheem Sterling is back. Manchester city went on to beat West ham 5-0 on their week one. With 14 shots and 9 on target. The defending champions are again on the top of table. The Saturday clash with Totten ham Hotspur will be one worth the wait.

The premier League is back, anything can possibly happen. This is football. Normality is restored.
