Manchester City proceeds to the Champions League finals

Manchester is blue! City have qualified for the UEFA Champions League finals for the first time in their history after a comprehensive 2-0 win against Paris Saint Germain (PSG). Riyad Mahrez scored a brace for the English giants during the return leg of the tie at the Etihad Stadium to make the aggregate score 4-1.  City had won 2-1 in Paris a week ago. The match was generally evenly matched though the second half sending off of Argentinian winger Angel Di Maria after intentionally kicking Brazilian Midfielder Fernandinho gave the hosts a slight advantage.

Pep Guardiola guided his team into their history books in the competition. This is definitely not the first time for the Spanish Manager to reach this stage. It’s been however a decade of waiting; the last time Guardiola was in the Champions league final was back in 2011. The then FC Barcelona Manager overcame a spirited challenge from Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United to win 3-1 at Wembley stadium in London.

Manchester City set to face Chelsea or Real Madrid in the finals

City, the Premier League Leaders will play the winner of tonight’s West London clash between Chelsea and Real Madrid. The hosts will have the slight advantage of an away goal after drawing away at the Santiago Bernabeu mid last week.

The 2021 final will be held on May 29th at the recently renovated Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul. This was the venue for the famous 2005 Champions League final in which a Steven Gerrad inspired Liverpool FC came back from 3 nil down at halftime to beat AC Milan.

This is the second final of the season for City who recently lifted the Carabao and remain in contention for an incredible Treble as they remain favorites to win the Premier League.
