Khaligraph says the meeting with DP william Ruto was not a political endorsement

Controversial statements have been flying across social media over Deputy President William Ruto's meeting with renowned rapper Khaligraph Jones and other artists. A section of artists who did not attend the meeting has strongly criticized the event stating that the artists only went there to receive handouts and nothing more.

Towards the end of last week, William Ruto hosted a section of Kenyan artists after rapper Khaligraph Jones pleaded with him to help unlock the country.

Khaligraph decided to clear the air by addressing the critics. He stated that the meeting was formally meant to address the issues affecting artists, with the COVID-19 regulations that have highly inconvenienced the creative industry.

The rapper went ahead to state that political matters had nothing to do with their meeting with the Deputy President.

"It is so sad that people who were not in the meeting have a lot to say. People assume when artistes meet a politician, they are going for handouts,"

He added that they did not attend the meeting to endorse anyone politically.

"Let me make this clear that the meeting we had with DP Ruto was not political, and we did not go for the meeting to endorse anyone,"

One of the tabled issues in the meeting was the unfair treatment by music regulation organizations on artists.

"The issue of the royalties was also brought on the table. The bodies mandated to collect the revenue on our behalf are taking so much. We tried to push for 50%, and he (the DP) assured us that in a couple of months, the resolution would be worked on," said Khaligraph.

The artists equally suggested that an emergency kitty be established to protect them during the lengthy pandemic.

They also concluded that they would generate relevant ideas to aid in curbing COVID-19 spread. According to them, such an initiative would assist in lifting the directive issued due to COVID-19.
