Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that he will be running for the presidency in the August poll after reputing a chief cabinet secretary position offered to him by Azimio la Umoja One flag bearer, Raila Odinga.

This comes amid failed expectations as the party leader had anticipated turning out the best candidate for the running mate slot.

Kalonzo added that his choice to run for the presidency comes amid a belief of being shortchanged by the Azimio Coalition where he had insinuated being the most eligible candidate for the role.

During his announcement, the former vice president declared his running mate slot for Andrew Sunkuli who is mostly known as a businessman.

Speaking on the idea of Azimio’s running mate selection of Martha Karua, the party leader stated that the Azimio leader Raila Odinga comprehends that he is to make a move into having his running mate selected since they had a detailed conversation on the matter though failed to arrive at a concession.

This came in after several meetings with a failed persuasion attempt towards having the Wiper party and its head within the coalition.

Kalonzo said this also addressing the fact that his fellow politician Gideon Moi would support his bid as was originally in the One Kenya Alliance outfit.

However, this remains debatable as the KANU party leader is still affiliated with the Azimio Coalition citing his appearance for the running mate announcement earlier on at KICC.

The party leader has noted that his name had already been submitted to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as the presidential candidate of the Wiper Party.

Offering his promises of a better tomorrow under his reign he said, "The majority of Kenyans want an alternative between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio. For how long do people want Kalonzo to be the one to sacrifice and when I sacrifice, they mess up? I promise 50/50 gender in Government."

The wiper leader went ahead to urge Kenyans on the need for mind resetting and in fact, requested a week off to reflect on this citing it as a matter of so much weight

The KANU chairman and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, after attending KICC Raila unveiling of the running mate rushed to also attend the declaration of the Wiper Party’s move for August polls and announcing of the running mate candidate.

Though attending, Gideon Moi declined to offer a speech during the briefing and announcement at the SKM centre.
